Katja Gohe is a German artist living in Oldenburg. She pursued an education in Fine Arts and Visual Communication at Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg and has had solo and group exhibitions held in Germany.
On canvas, she uses abstract analogue motifs while her digital paintings and collages hold more figurative elements. Old photographs, fashion photography and pictures of classical paintings are the basis for my colour-intensive collages. The partially painted sections meet lines and structures that create a strange space of reference that cannot be clearly assigned. They are magical, surreal worlds – enigmatic and questioning. They make the self-evident fragile.
In her digital collages, she explores the possibilities of the medium and put layer upon layer. She works on them until a structure emerges which hardly reminds of the state-of-the-art “photoshopped“ digital output. The various traces, such as scratches, streaks, stains, artefacts make the pictures look raw and wild, like paintings.
